A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. – John 13:34-35

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be My disciples. – John 15:7-8

My love for my brothers and sisters in Christ will only go as far as my love for Christ. He is to be my first love and it is from my love for Christ that my love for others, particularly my brothers and sisters in Christ flows. One of the true measures of our love for Him is our love for one another. I greatly encourage you to ask your Father in heaven to empower you to love more and more. Earnestly pray that He would make you increase and abound in love for Him, for one another, for all to the praise of His glory.

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. – 1 John 4:7-11

Below is a partial list of the One Another’s found throughout Scripture. These are Christ’s commands that all work together in moving His people towards loving one another as He loves us. By faith and out of love for Christ Jesus we are to obey these commands so that we are being obedient to the new commandment given to us in John 13:34; 15:12; and 15:17. To be living Christ is to be loving. If I am growing in Christ-likeness then I am growing in love. To be conformed more and more into the likeness of Christ means I am being conformed to love more and more like Him.

And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. – Ezekiel 36:26-27

Is this true of you? Are you walking according to God’s Word. Are you living in obedience to Him? Is there a desire to obey Him out of love and faith. When you do sin, does it grieve you and do you run to Him repenting of your sins; knowing He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from our unrighteousness?

If these things are true of you then you are born again. If these things are not true of you then you are not born again. Christians are new creations in Christ…new people saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ Jesus alone and the proof we are saved is that God has changed us.

A person who has been born again, or regenerated, does not habitually commit sin. He no longer sins with his heart and will and whole inclination. There was probably a time when he did not think about whether his actions were sinful or not, and he did not always feel grieved after doing evil. There was no quarrel between him and sin; they were friends. But the true Christian hates sin, flees from it, fights against it, considers it his greatest plague, resents the burden of its presence, mourns when he falls under its influence, and longs to be completely delivered from it. Sin no longer pleases him, nor is it even a matter of indifference to him; it has become a horrible thing which he hates. – J. C. Ryle

For now we live, if you are standing fast in the Lord. – 1 Thessalonians 3:8

But that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account. Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith, – Philippians 1:20-25

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, what does it mean to live?

  • It means to live Christ.
  • It means to live my life by faith in such a way that Christ Jesus is magnified in all that I do.
  • It means that my life is invested in the lives of others to the glory of God.
  • It means that my life is lived in such a way that God uses me as a means of grace to help His children walk in a manner worthy of Jesus Christ our Lord.
  • I LIVE IF YOU ARE STANDING FAST IN THE LORD…BEING MADE MORE AND MORE INTO THE LIKENESS OF CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD.

Brothers and Sisters, Christ is honored when we live our lives for the progress and joy of one another’s faith. Christ is honored when our lives are used in bring lost souls to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. May God bless us in bearing much fruit for His glory!

Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. – Luke 22:31-32a

Satan asks for himself to have Peter to try to overthrow his faith just as he had demanded of Job. And what does Jesus do? He allows it. Christ allows His saints to be tested…persecuted but why?

  • The trials our Father puts us through reveal to us who we truly are.
  • It is good for God’s children to be brought low to expose sin in our lives which leads to repentance.
  • So that the tested genuineness of our faith may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
  • To honor Christ by manifesting that the things of Christ are infinitely more valuable than the best this world has to offer. The best the world has to offer is but dung compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus the Lord.
  • To reveal to Satan and a lost world that true saving faith can never be destroyed…that Christ Jesus gives His people eternal life, that we will never perish, and that no one can snatch us out of His hands because no one is greater He.

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and how inscrutable His ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been His counselor?” “Or who has given a gift to Him that He might be repaid?” For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever. Amen. – Romans 11:33-36
